The small articulated tandem rollers from HD 8 (1.5 t) to HD 14 (4.2 t) follow a new design concept. The engine and cooling unit are no longer installed transversely, as is usually the case, but longitudinally to the direction of travel. This new concept provides unique visibility of the drum edges, which are now directly in the field of view, across the entire line from 1.5 t to 4.2 t. The front frame and the profiled hoods are designed to taper towards the operator. On the HD 8 and HD 10C, the additional offset arrangement of the drums makes the machines extremely maneuverable, even when compacting close to the edges of walls or curbs. The design of the railing on all machines results from its three functions: 1. as a climbing aid, 2. as protection for the vandal-proof „armature shell“ and 3. as a central suspension point during crane loading. All operating functions and displays on the control panel are self-explanatory, intuitive, non verbal and easy to understand. The 3-point articulated joint, used for the first time on this type of roller, ensures the high level of driving comfort, absolute directional stability and extreme tilt resistance of the rollers even on uneven terrain in earthmoving operations.
While HD 8 and HD 10C are predestined for small construction sites thanks to their maneuverability and offset drums, the heavier machine types in the series are ideal for compacting new, porous asphalt materials such as whispering asphalt thanks to their relatively low static line load.
